BODRUM MUNICIPALITY ON INTERNATIONAL PLATFORM
Bodrum Municipality was elected to the MedCities Mediterranean Cities Network Coastal Cities Working Group within the scope of environmental sustainability and combating climate change
Bodrum Municipality, the only municipality selected from Turkey, presented its projects on climate change and environmental sustainability at the meeting held in Barcelona.
In the study carried out by the Climate Change and Zero Waste Directorate of Bodrum Municipality, the coastal flood risks of Bodrum for the years 2030 and 2050 and the possible effects of these risks were presented in detail. In addition, strategic plans for sustainable tourism management and the fight against illegal structures were presented to the Barcelona Metropolitan Municipality Coastal Planning authorities.
In another important part of the meeting, the iMermaid: Identification of Environmental Pollutants and BoostMed: Sustainable Tourism Corridors projects, for which applications were completed by the Climate Change and Zero Waste Directorate, turned Bodrum's environmental and tourism strategies into an important opportunity for international cooperation.
As a result of the negotiations for Bodrum to join the Coalition of Ocean Cities, Regions and Islands, the process of increasing resilience in coastal areas and expanding environmental sustainability projects gained momentum. The integration of smart sea buoys and solar energy systems implemented in Barcelona into Bodrum was also discussed in technical detail.
Participants also took part in the Ocean Cities Network UNESCO programme and Horizon Project ANERIS.
